Great explanation Mounir. I just wanted to add that this extension to BGP-4 is defined by RFC2858 for those interested to learn a bit more about it.

Thanks for posting this. I had the same challenge as you. But by luck I stumbled across this:

Eliminates the need to create a GRE at all. I'm checking about the MTU size tho as perhaps that is a gap.

Anyway, just to share my findings :)
